Npower to cut 1,000 jobs
27 November 2013
Npower is to outsource its call centres, cutting hundreds of jobs in the process.
The decision will affect 2,000 staff but job losses are likely to stay around the 1,000 mark as most staff will be transferred rather than face redundancy.
Unions fear that the company’s call centre in Thornaby near Middlesbrough is “almost certain” to close with outsourcing company Capita expected to take on the frontline call centre work.
Earlier this month the company announced plans to axe 6,750 jobs, around 10% of staff, across Europe after warning of lower-than-expected profits.
The Group has decreased headcount four per cent since the end of 2012.
