John Lewis announce UK jobs cuts
14 February 2013
John Lewis has become the latest retail chain to announce job cuts, in a surprising move.
Britain’s biggest highstreet department stores will cut as many as 325 department managers.
Each John Lewis store has around ten department store managers who will be replaced by one or two more senior managers in 28 John Lewis outlets.
The cuts are part of a cost cutting plan. According to reports, jobs would be lost in stores as the majority of John Lewis’ sales growth was from online sales. A 90-day consultation on job losses and redeployment will begin in March.
