Comet to close 125 stores with 200 jobs losses
30 November 2012
A further 125 Comet stores are to be closed over the next few weeks with the loss of 2,500 jobs.
The electrical retailer has already shut 41 stores with more than 1,000 jobs cut so far. Administrator Deloitte has warned that it may shut down its entire Comet business before the end of the year unless a buyer can be found.
The 70 stores that remain open will continue trading until all stock has been sold. Deloitte is also proposing to shut the firm’s distribution centre in Harlow and will cut office functions in Hertfordshire, Hull and Clevedon.
Comet’s Administrator, Chris Farrington stated: "We remain in discussions with a small number of interested parties and hope that a positive outcome can still be achieved. Should any acceptable offers be received for stores we will delay the closure process.
"Unfortunately, in the absence of a firm offer for the whole of the business, it has become necessary to begin making plans in case a sale is not concluded. If a sale is not possible we would envisage stores to begin closing in December."
More Flexibility in the workplace with Borer's FUSION T&A System.
Borer's Time and Attendance system is designed to offer employees more flexibility in the workplace. With more and more emphasis being placed on work life balance, organisations must define procedures to support employees.
One way to do this is by implementing flexitime by providing staff with flexible working hours to accommodate those working part-time, family priorities, covering absences and job sharing.
