Alcatel-Lucent to cut up to 5,500 jobs
22 October 2012
The telecoms equipment corporation will be shedding 5,500 jobs worldwide as part of cost-cutting exercise.
Alcatel-Lucent aims to save 750 million euro (£611m), with employees working in sales, marketing and administration to be affected primarily.
Around 7% of Alcatel-Lucent’s 76,002 workforce will be affected by the job cuts. More than half of them will take place in Europe, the Middle-East and Africa. This includes around 1,400 jobs in France.
In the second quarter of 2012, Alcatel-Lucent reported a net loss of 254 million euros. Its European business suffered the biggest decline during that period, with sales down 15.6%.
