2,500 UK jobs have been secured after Airbus secured deals that could be worth over £30billion on the first day of the Dubai airshow.
The company was able to secure a deal said to be worth £14.2billion with airline Emirates who want a further 50 of its A380 superjumbos.
The order secure a further 2,500 jobs at the firm’s Broughton facility in Flintshire and its Filton plant, near Bristol.
Wings for the A380 are designed at the firm’s Filton plant and the Airbus facility in Broughton is responsible for the manufacturing and assembling of these wings. This facility alone provides up to 6,000 jobs.
Ethiad Airlines, a United Arab Emirates flag carrier is also planning to secure a deal worth £16.7bn on 120 planes. Qatar Airways has also agreed upon a £600m deal for five A330 freighters. Options to expand by a further eight aircrafts could make increase the deal’s value to £1.7billion.
Emirates have so far placed a total order of 140 A380 aircrafts. With the continued strong demand for the large aircraft, the airline is responsible for nearly half the total global orders for the A380.
