Borer Data Systems Launches ATRACS – the Complete Enterprise-wide Site Security Information Solution
June 2001
Borer Data Systems has launched ATRACS – the most powerful security information system for multi-site-based organisations available today. Designed to be deployed on a client’s existing network server, ATRACS runs on the corporate network (LAN or WAN) to link remote offices into one integrated security information system.
ATRACS has been developed to provide a single platform that combines access control, attendance recording, visitor management, alarm monitoring and photo-ID card production functions, into one enterprise–wide security information system. Each element of the programme can be used separately or in any combination to create a tailored package for individual requirements. By seamlessly integrating this complete range of security features, ATRACS reduces administration and infrastructure costs, whilst offering both commercial and public sector organisations a comprehensive range of security features.
Fully TCP/IP compliant, ATRACS runs under a Windows NT Server and an end-users own Ethernet or Token Ring network. This allows implementation within the existing corporate LAN/WAN eliminating the need for expensive, duplicate security networks. The system uses a relational database to enable the sharing of information and the combining of applications previously run as stand-alone. This integrated approach provides greater security as local and remote sites can be monitored from a single location, and reduces operating and administration costs as a single database is shared across an organisation. Authorised personnel, from any workstation on the corporate network, can use ATRACS to monitor activity and report on the status at security points potentially many miles apart. A subset of the database is held at each site controller to enable autonomous operation. This distributed intelligence allows control to be exercised at each site and easy monitoring from a central point. For added flexibility, certain information in the ATRACS database can also be linked to an organisation’s intranet. Crucially, the learning–curve with ATRACS is straightforward as the user-interface features icons and toolbars based on the standard Windows model, which guarantees instant recognition.
Developed and manufactured in-house, ATRACS is one of many of Borer Data System’s market-proven security solutions. The company is at the forefront of technological innovation in the sector and in an industry first, is currently employing CAN (Controller Area Network) technology in building access control and alarm monitoring applications. Widely used in control and automation systems, CAN conforms to the ISO Standard 11898 for serial data communication.
Borer Data Systems is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers in the specialist field of access control, attendance management and data collection systems. The company was the first in Europe to offer a fully integrated approach employing a range of custom-designed card readers and computer software to provide features such as access control alarm monitoring and attendance management in the same system.
